Viber for Windows lets you send free messages and make free calls to other Viber users, on any device and network, in any country! Viber syncs your contacts, messages and call history with your mobile device.

Requirements

You have to install Viber app (free) on your Android, iPhone, Blackberry, Windows Phone, Nokia or Bada devices to activate Viber on your desktop.

DIY/Do It Yourself: Upgrade to the Latest Release

Requirements 7-Zip, NPP/Notepad++ or other text editor, PortableApps.com Launcher Generator/PAL, PortableApps.com Installer/PAI.

1. Get the latest portable app. template, and extract the content with 7-Zip.
2. Get the latest Viber release.
3. Put it in the same folder as the extracted template, in our example C:TEST, then open it with 7-Zip: Open archive ? #,
   double-click the biggest archive, 4.cab to open it,
   extract the a0 archive inside to our working folder,
   rename it to for example ViberSetup.msi then extract the installer by following this guide,
   
4. Browse into the extracted folder C:TESTViberSetup, and move Viber folder to ViberPortableApp,
   delete vcredist_x86.exe file.
5. Browse to ViberPortableAppAppInfo and open appinfo.ini file with NPP. Replace the [Version] section with the latest version number. Make sure the PackageVersion entry is in 4 place digit, eg. 7.9.5.1 not just 7.9.5,
   
6. Run PAL, paste the template folder address C:TESTViberPortable, and click Go�a new launcher will be created,
   
7. Test the new launchers by following this guide.
8. When all is OK, then delete the ViberPortableData folder and run PAI, paste the package folder address C:TESTViberPortable, and click Go�to create the installer package.
   
9. Use the installer package to upgrade your portable application. Dont forget to at least backup your Data folder before any upgrade :)
10. If you find any changes thats not handled by the launcher, consult the PAL help file to modify the launcher yourself or ask for our paid upgrade support.

Portability Notes

• Viber do not have portable mode. It stores its settings in Windows registry and data folders while running.
• Make sure it exits cleanly before plugging out your thumbdrive.
• We failed to portablize its paths stored in several SQLite file, so if you move this app., it might reset some of its settings.
• You can help by sending request to the official developer to add "portable mode" to their future release.

6.9.0.1048: Not entirely portable. We failed to portablize paths in the settings (an SQLite database). Despite correct SQL queries (tested manually), it just wont write into the settings database programmatically. If you move the app. folder, it might result in some errors. Thats why the long delay for this update ;)
